I grew up in Mullan, a little mining town tucked in the mountains of the Silver Valley. My great-uncle helped start the Lucky Friday mine, and the men in my family worked underground for three generations. I wanted to be the fourth. My dad and grandpa had other plans for me. They knew how hard that life was, and they wanted something different for me.
So I joined the Navy and served as a Construction Electrician with the Seabees. After that I worked as a journeyman pipefitter, traveling from job to job. Then one day I was working in Wyoming when my wife called to tell me our house was on fire. I was hundreds of miles away and couldn't do a thing to help her.
That was the day I decided I was done being gone. I wanted to be home with my wife, close to family and friends, in the mountains I grew up in. But coming home didn't mean I was done serving. In the Navy, I served my country. Now I serve my neighbors, helping families here find, buy, and build the homes they'll make their lives in.
